Thinking about buying a 2004 S4....Adivice welcomed and needed
So I am in the market for a new car (my GTI MKV is just too small). Looking at B7 quattro's and then stumbled across a local guy selling a clean 2004 S4. This car looks sweet and from the reviews looks good too. But, the car has 65K miles on it...Should this concern me? Any things that I should be looking at replacing in the near future? I have always liked german engineering and styling, but I am open for other car suggestions too. What do you experts think??? Thank you

Nothing not to like about a B6 S4. They are great cars. Since it's local to you, ......
....you should bring it to an audi dealer or good indpendent mechanic to have a complete pre-purchase inspection done. And have the paint/body/frame checked as well for any previous repairs or paintwork.
If you need help finding a nice one at a good price, let me know. I've helped a few dozen people on AW, and hundreds elsewhere find nice cars and can provide lots of references.
Good luck!
Bruce

Thank you Bruce. I will hopefully get a chance to test drive it over the weekend. I do know that the carfax is clean. Do you know if there is a way to have Audi certify it for add'l coverage? Or is that just something Audi dealers do for their inventory? Would you have any reservations about that engine having 65Kmiles on it, or is it pretty solid?

I do not think Audi will certify it but you can buy an extended warranty. It is pretty much same thing as CPO warranty.
I bought extended warranty for my 2004 S4 when I bought it with 50K. The coverage I got covers pretty much everything. The only thing you have to pay is $50 deductible.
As far as checking the car. I think engine should pretty solid, but I would check engine mounts and suspension in general.
My car now with 68K is having some issues with engine mounts and/or suspension.
Good luck with your purchase.

My engine has over 105K miles on it, and it is as strong and smooth as when it had 7000 miles... Just follow the maintenance schedule...

Considering how bad the Audi service is, I'd skip CPO.
Take the car to a euro car specialst and have it checked out.
I'm at over 60K and my 04 S4 has been great, but part of that is preventive maint. and NOT following the suggested intervals from Audi, which are too long, imo.
Change the oil every 5K (M1 syn)
Change/Check the plugs every 25K
Replace tans/diff fluids ever 50k
Easy DIY for most/
