Thoughts on S4 performance and fun

My B5 S4, with mods, was a real drivers car. And, just a bit on the wild side. Loved it!
The B6 S4, is different, though I still love it.
More of a high end executive car, than the B5. The biggest differences in feel, are proabably due to the fact that my '00 S4 did not have ESP, and even when off on the B6, it still cuts in...
Overall, for where I'm in my career (SVP) and having other track cars and karts, it suits me fine.

After I saw what people with serious driving skills can do, I concluded that, at least in the U.S., cars like these are more for status than anything else, unless you plan to track them. You'll never have a chance to experience anything approaching the true capabilities- and limits- of this car otherwise.

suit me just fine.
Imagine having a new C6 Z06. You could never come close to using it's full potential on the street.
4/10ths would be enough to land you in jail. LOL

2004 E55 partly because it wasn't really much fun to drive. Yes it was very fast but it really wasn't fun until you hit triple digit speeds and I didn't get much chance to do that in the U.S. The steering on the E55 was kind of weird at slow speeds too. I think my next car will be something that is fast but also fairly lightweight and tossable.

feel that an A4 is less safe at high speeds than an S4...due to the S4 having better suspension and brakes, for one thing.
i agree that the lesser car is determined not only by less power, but less capability and high speed stability by way of design.
i know what you mean though, about having a smaller/lighter car to be able to toss around more like a sports car...such as, maybe, a miata. however, i wouldn't turn down an S4 though for most other VAG cars.

just started a new gig where the commute is 90% highway miles. The S4 has no sense of speed until you're flying and I really see myself getting into trouble. Love the power but the car's weight really gets to me in twisties. Admittedly, the S handles way better than a car it's weight has a right too but I miss having something more nimble, even if that means taking a loss on power.
I'm getting a beater for my commute and once that happens, there's a good chance I'll get rid of the S4 for something more nimble and rwd. Wife is getting a new ride soon and I'll probably keep her Ford Escape for work use and pick up a Cayman to enjoy myself
