Default Thoughts on wheels?

Hey guys, thanx in advance for advice given. So I've got an '08 red S4 with DTM package and am looking to upgrade to some 19's for summer. I've got the 18" stock RS4 reps now. Love those, but am using for snow wheels. I blacked out my grill, and am thinking about 19" titanium RS4 reps vs. some 19" black O.Z. superturismo gt's. Any thoughts? Good quality on the O.Z.'s? I know the RS4's are a little played out, but I still think they're cool. Also, anybody think a black grill and darker wheels will look odd with chrome window surrounds and mirrors? Thanx, I appreciate it.

Default Re: Thoughts on wheels?

I personally think if you've already done the black grille, the wheels won't make it look any more out of place with the rest of the trim.

Black wheels are always a good match with a red car anyway.

I've got the Superturismo's (bright silver) and have had no problems. I will say they're a pain in the *** to clean but maybe it's not such an issue with black.

Default I hate the black/dark wheel look.

Love the RS4 wheels though. Your wheels will look dark soon enough as the brake dust accumulates

Hah, you're right on that. Between brake dust and nasty Idaho winter roads, my wheels are filthy.

Default It depends on your color scheme on the car.

I went with the Champion RG40's because they are very light, forged, and have a polished lip. I like the way the polished lip accents the polished mirrors and exterior trimming.

Wheels fall into two categories in my opinion: Cosmetic and Performance. If you can find a wheel that satisfies both categories, then get them. I lean more towards performance than cosmetic, partially because most wheels are heavy and really increase unsprung weight from stock. Unsprung weight, to me, is the enemy.

Default go light

I am with dr Q on this one. I like the champions but most important to me is a strong light wheel.

Default Re: go light

Dumb question #2, what's light? I think both those wheels are around 27lbs. I suspect light is in the low 20's. Thanx.

Default RG40 = 19lbs

according to a very reliable source; the 0-60 times with a full STaSIS package reduce by .3 seconds. .2 of that time reduction comes from reducing unsprung weight ie, wheels and brakes.
