Default timing chain at 75-85K, question to everyone but DR GP

since he brought it up before to me...

how do you know that the b6 s4's are going to need a new timing chain at 75-85K, is this from experience with other cars? or just

and how much would that cost? thanks

I'm planning on keep this car for a long time and I wanted to know long term problems

Default Its not replacement of the chain but the tensioners....

and I believe the tensioners that need replaceing can be replaces without removal of the engine.

JD, I was under the impression that the chain itself would also need replacement?

Default There are two schools of thought.....

Wes and I were both told by his tech the chain should last the life of the engine. As discussed before, the chain will elongate slightly over time, however we are talking less then a cm over 200-300k miles which is within spec. The tensioner which keeps the chain tight on the other hand (and the guides etc....) can fail since they are moving parts and keep that chain safe from harm and moving. The self study for this engine is now out and I cant wait to read it. Hopefully it will shed some light on this.
