Default You are completely out of your mind.

OVER AND OVER AND OVER again the M3 is lauded as being one of the best driver's BMW's EVER. From a company that makes driver's cars, that is a big deal. Look at the lap times, for crying out loud. Look at the times the stock M3 has done of the 'Ring. Look at all the cars it has outpaced. Look at the fact that the M3 HAS beaten the S4 around a track in some tests, and lost to it in others.

Are you HONESTLY telling me you think the E46 M3 has handling issues? Are you HONESTLY telling me you think the S4 is a remarkably more capable handling vehicle? Get real. The two cars are very close. Why are you so quick to swallow whole ANY test that puts the S4 in front, but then dismiss out of hand anything that puts the M3 on top? From all your postings I'm starting to see you as someone who has way too much personal identity wrapped up in their purchase. This argument is simply ridiculous. The M3 DOES NOT have a handling deficiency.

And where does your 90% come from? Is that some official poll you conducted, or just more hyperbole?

Default That's hot.

I wonder if Euro gas has anything to do with those numbers? I'm trying to figure out what exactly would be making those numbers that high. Can't just be timing, correct?

Default Uhh i think its the other way around...

we are obviously talking relative terms here...no one is arguing that the M3 isnt a masterpiece...but will the next M3 be even a greater masterpiece just as the new S4 is...i would hope so

Default no idea....

US tuners (O.Ct/APR) etc... all seem to think they can get similar gains. It looks like there is just power for the taking in this engine. I personally want to see what APR does, mainly because I think there 'software only' approach to things. Ill be very interested to see what they come up with.

Default exactly....

Everyone has to trump the previous person. Audi has decided if they release a new car at the same time as MB & BMW they will never be in the limelight being the under dogs in the high performance german car sector. Hopefully with the merging of the RS & S cars into one line, audi will come out of the shadows and become the fore runner of this area.

Default In 2005 maybe M3 owners can gloat but then again many S4 owners will have tuned their cars...

and once again it will be the M3 drivers who must follow and as we all know the Audi drivers "never follow"

sorry I know i said this already in a previous post but i thought it was appropiate

Default I agree..

When I had my B5, I chose only to go with APR. Ran great for me! Never had any of the brand 'x' issues. :-p

Default I think you're delusional if you think Audi didn't have the M3 in its crosshairs...

when designing the new S4. Two, four or five doors Audi used the M3 as the performance benchmark.

Now, yes I own an M3, yes I was THIS close to buying an S4 and yes I began posting here when I had an S4 on order. But at the end of the day I chose the M3. That said, I fully acknowledge that the new S4 is a fantastic car. I enjoy this board for it's lively threads and, with a few exceptions, its mature and open-minded posters.

Default And once again i have to chuckle...

Your absolutely right and I applaud Audi for pulling it off. My point is that I think that they have proven that they reached that benchmark by the amount of attention and respect M3 owners are giving this car, yourself included. If you think that S4 avant owners arent laughing when they successfully overtake an M3 on the road then you sir are the one that is delusional. C'mon man have some fun with this, I love the M3 (i just like the S4 a little more), and yes it is faster (most of the time) so be flattered that it was used as a benchmark.
