Default (Warning)Shop reference for All German auto in Escondido. This was in my effort to get the

ECT switch on my car replaced. I was going to do the job myself, but it is not as easy as it should be.

Was told by a couple of forum members that it is 1/2 hour job for someone experienced.

I went on business travel, had the wife setup the appointment assuming it would be CHEAPER then the dealer. Decided to throw in the window regulator (2nd time) to be replaced as well, I have all parts.

When I am coming home she tells me how much it will cost, and I freak and cancel the appointment

ECT - 96-350.00 - Depending on where it is at. WTF? Don't you have a bentley and a price quote to give me.

Regulator - The labor cost on this was 50.00 bux more then the dealer!

So back to square one, finidng a good shop in Orange county or Escondido.

Default Sometimes the dealer is just a better option?

You may save a few bucks going elsewhere, but if it means spending time researching and taking it to a few different places, i would think the time issue is of more value...

Default Agree, in this case there is no money saved. So I ask myself ..wny would I come to "your" shop

if you are charging me more then the dealer!

The ECT should cost me only 1/2 hour of labor.

Default Reason: Most Indy shops are run by better mechanics

Dealerships hire newbs. It's were mechanics learn to be mechanics. You don't want your car to be a part of that learning process.

Would you get your root canal done at the local dentistry school by a student?

Dealerships are only good for warranty work because it's free. After warranty is over, never go back.

Default Somewhat agree with that, but not completly. No Mad Skills required

for what I am asking to be done. Newbie is fine, Audi always stands behind their reparis, treats me like royalty AND gives me a free loaner.

Plus the research required to find a good shop is also challenging too.
