2012 S4 clutch ossues
Hello,
I reside in San Diego and I brought my S4 to Audi Escondido have its 55k maintenance plan completed with a request to look at my clutch. It requires a lot of force to start the vehicle. I am literally pushing the clutch through the firewall for it to start. Shifting gears is great though. No issues with that. The estimate is below:
Hi Lucas,
I received your voicemail a few minutes ago. The pivot arm that activates the release bearing for the clutch is what failed. The clutch itself feels fine, works fine.
Basically that arm is worn/broken/or bent just enough that the car won’t start.
Parts: 0B4-198-165 BEARING $293.99
0B1-141-719K LEVER $96.99
0B1-141-777-B BALL PIN $11.99
0B1-141-751 PIECE $ 5.99
OPTIONAL PARTS!!!= NO FURTHER LABOR TO REPLACE CLUTCH WHILE WE ARE IN THERE; CLUTCH DISC= $326.99 AND CLUTCH= $376.99
Plus tax on all parts.
LABOR IS 14HRS TOTAL AT $165/HR= $2310
I also talked to three private shops for estimates: Escondido German Auto, PURE Motorsport, and Lusti Motors.
PURE told me they don’t have to drop the tranny and it only requires a new master clutch cylinder but another private auto confirmed the dealer’s assessment.
My dilemma is:
1) drive it until the pivot arm actually fails and I cant start it.
2) have the dealer do the repair.
3) have the dealer do the repair and/or replace the clutch in a preventative maintenance effort.
4) take it to a private auto repair shop.
Suggestions/Recommendations?
Thank you.
Lucas

i am definitely planning on keeping it. That was a recommendation from another private shop. If that work effort is that big, may as well. Thank you for ge reply!

Search the forums, many people (myself included) have troubles with their clutch being difficult and not wanting to activate the start sensor. Most agree that the clutch cylinder is the problem, and just gets worn enough that it doesn't actuate far enough. There are DIY solutions, If I recall correctly there was a user who was selling custom cylinder rods he made himself that could fix the problem of having to push the clutch down to the floor. General consensus is that Audi doesn't have a proper fix and usually attempt to just replace most of the entire clutch solution to see if it works better.

That makes sense. One of the shops said the same thing and tonspecifically ask about the clutch cylinder. Thank you for the reply!
