Advanced Key option Q's

A few questions to the S4 owners with the "Advanced Key" option. What happens if you leave the car with the engine running and walk away with the key in your pocket, does the engine shut off automatically at a certain distance? Can you lock the doors from the outside when the engine is running? Can someone drive away while you're standing outside with the key in your pocket?

As far as I know the car will stay running and a little missing key symbol will be on the dash. Basically if you turn the car off you won't be able to turn it back on as no keyfob is around.

Technically someone could drive a way I suppose but they could just never turn it off

I haven't tried to lock the car from outside while running - I doubt that would work - can't test now or I would.

Also unsure about the lock, but you can definitely get out of the car with the key warning, it will still run till turned off, then it's not going anywhere without a key inside the car.

You're not able to lock the doors once you get out (used to do that with my Infiniti)...and you're not able to unlock any locked doors either (e.g., the passenger door). Somewhat annoying at times, but I suppose it makes sense for added security.

You can't lock the car with the key inside. The sensors detect if the key is inside or outside and locking is prevented if the key isn't inside. A cool trick to show people is to try to close the trunk with the key in it. The trunk won't even close, it's just pops back open again. I'm pretty sure you can drive the car if you leave it running with the key not in it, but haven't tried this personally.

You can use the mechanical key

You can lock the doors if you use the mechanical key (i.e. slide the key out of the fob and in the door). If you do this you will also need to use the mechanical key to unlock the door. I have done this on road trips with our dog in the car when we stop to eat and it is hot outside. Good thing the car idles quietly

I remember I had an aftermarket car starter in high school that would automatically cut the engine when the brake was applied if the key was not in the ignition. Would be nice if the advanced key would do something like that.

It's been a while since I looked, but I thought the if the car doesn't find a key and is becomes stationary it won't let the parking brake turn off or the gear selector move out of park.
