Not sure if it applies here, but sub-woofers typically have a "break-in" period where they don't sound that good until they are broken in and can get proper extension... Maybe the system needs to be broken-in and then it will have better base output. Fingers crossed... I have the B&O too and have yet to hear it...

Do you mean between a Q7 w/ B&O vs. an S4 w/ B&O? What's the difference?

The Q7 has what is in the A8 I believe. More speakers, power and better overall design I believe. I know the A8 has rising tweeters from the dash for example.

Bigger cars/soundstages I guess. More room for the hardware maybe?

Yeah your right. I mean what can you expect from a 1100CAD B/O upgrade. Most B/O systems are 5000+, so when you pay 1100CAD I guess you get what you paid for. The system in the Q7 is also a lot more expensive (around 8000CAD I believe).

I just wish they chose a company that makes better speakers for the money (like a B&W). Don't get me wrong, B/O is great, but 3-5 times overpriced. Overall I guess I can't complain, as the highs and mids are very good.

You need to adjust the sound stage settings to Driver or Front to hear half decent bass, otherwise, it will sound a bit tinny, but the mids and highs are super clear and precise.

Just add an amp and subwoofer to the system to get the bass. You may need to be creative on connecting it, since the audio distribution to the amplifier in the trunk is probably "MOST" (Media-Oriented System Transport).

On my Mercedes, I tapped into the preamp section of my Bose amp after the DAC signal output, then added a Kicker ZX700.5 amp & new speakers. I connected the trigger for turning on the Kicker amp to slave off the Bose amp internal Power.

One could probably do something similar with the Audi B & O system. The most bang for the buck is just to add the mono channel subwoofer and subwoofer speaker to the B & O system.

If you want ridiculous subwoofer power one could add the 10kW Kicker Warhorse, but you would need to add a bank of batteries and powerful alternator to drive it.

New here....and closing in on buying/ordering my S4. Question for this group is after all the points below, is the B/O option worth it? Best asked is: if I have a car I can buy today off the lot that has everything I want but this option, should I wait the two months and order the car from the factory?

Thanks,
Tom

That's a hard question to answer for you, Tom. It all depends on what you're looking for in your car and how much you value audio quality. No, it's no Mark Levinson, but it's also not an expensive upgrade for the additional quality that you get (especially along with Nav since you get additional features like DSP). For me, I couldn't live without the B&O upgrade.
