Default Backup Camera

OK - I've gathered from another thread that a Prestige car does NOT get the backup camera with the navigation - you need to order the (silly IMO) side assist package.

Does that go for the plain old back up warning sensors as well? Am I not going to get that because I didn't order side assist?

(if so, this seems pretty messed up)

Sorry, I don't know but I have Prem+ with nav & back up camera and really love it. Not sure if changing your order is an option but I am spoiled by it and can't see owning another car without it (except maybe a convertible). That probably doesn't help, but it is sincere nonetheless.

That's correct... probably one of the dumbest and most confusing things I've ever witnessed in three decades of buying cars. If you get the NAV in the premium plus, you get the camera. The nav that comes with the highest trim line, the prestige, does NOT include the camera. Absolutely unbelievable. My doorstop of a SA blew it with me (he didn't know it either). Ican't WAIT to get my survey at the end of this transaction!! Ultimately, it's my fault since in my experience all SA's are doorstops and I pride myself on knowing what's what. Anyway, I got over it (I never had a backup camera in a sedan before and I don't need one now... but I would have LIKED it for sure).

I don't think you get warning sensors either. I think you're just on your own. I'll know for sure in a couple of days.

By the way, I called around to other audi dealers and explained what happened, and everyone of them commiserated with me on the whole backup camera fiasco saying they've heard it many times over. This is something Audi will probably clean up for next model year because it's so stupid I can't imagine they'd continue it.

I've got the prestige and the driver assist package (specifically for the back-up camera). My Nissan Altima had it and I got really used to it and didn't think I could go with out it.

Anyhow, if by "warning sensors" you mean like sonar beeping when you're backing up ... then yes, it's part of the driver assist package. When you're backing up, as you get closer to objects behind you, the car beeps faster and faster to let you know.

I'm not sure if this is what you're referring to, but let me know if you have any other questions!

I feel a bit bad for anyone who got this confused, but I'm looking at the order guide and pricing sheet, which I got from the dealer (and was online really early here on AW) and it can't really be clearer as to the fact that the backup camera and sensors are part of the Driver Assist Package on Prestige. It is that way in the brochure too...

OK one more question for you guys. On the car configurator on AudiUSA.com, when you select "details" for Driver Assist Package for a Prestige, it lists 3 things:
  • advanced parking system
  • audi side assist
  • rain and light sensor

That seems to imply that the rain/light sensor is part of this package as well. However on the Features and Specs page, it says rain and light sensor is standard on all S4s.

So do I need this package to get the rain and light sensors as well?

I agree it's completely confusing when they include it in that bunch on the website.
On the order guide it lists the following options for 'Driver Assist Package'
- Side Assist lane change assistant
- Rear parking sensors
- Rear backup camera

Rain/Light Sensor is listed as standard on Premium and Prestige levels for the S4 in the US.

BTW guys,

The %^&*@ advanced parking system doesn't work when you have your sound system cranked as you can't hear the beep! I found that out shortly after I got my current 2007 A4 when my rear bumper was punctured by a jeep's frontend hardware. Cost me $300 to repair!!!

Tim, no one to blame but the mirror. I never put the blame on anyone when it's my fault and it is my fault. (but i wish i had a sales guy who knew the ****ing CAR and understood the trim packages, which he didn't). This was in october and i think i was his first s4 order. Ugh...

However, I, and I think others, are complaining about the concept more than anything. Really, take items OUT of your top trim line that are included below it? Really? I've been doing this a long time and I can't really think of another time I've run across this. Not little things like a color or an inlay... it's the friggin backup camera and it's included in the nav of the line BELOW your top line and not in the top line when it has the nav??? I'm sorry, that's just stupid and arrogant packaging and i'll bet you any amount of money they fix this poor packaging in 2011.

Oh, and by the way, you can get the acoustic sensor system with a visual rear window display for 600 at the dealer. Not sure if I will or not but, hey, it's another option. I wonder if anyone around the board ever had one installed?
