In the MMI you can adjust the volume of the beep and the amount of muting on the radio while backing up to avoid that problem.

The volume lowers significantly as soon as you put the car in reverse. Nice little feature to avoid incidents like above. This is my first car with park distance and rear view camera, and I must say I still feel a little uncomfortable.

The great thing is the fact that the guidelines actually "turn" when you turn the wheel. It's nice to see where you're aiming the back of the car. When I first started using the camera, I was leaving too much room behind me. So, I would use the shaded blue rectangles as a guide to determine how much space I had left, then get out of the car to see what the actual distance was. I'm becoming a pro now.

Also, if you turn the **** of the side mirror adjuster to the right mirror, when you put the car in reverse, it lowers/aims down so that you can see the curb on the passenger side of the car. This is great for backing into one-dingers (my word for parking spaces in which only one side of your car is exposed to another parking space).

Unfortunately that's only with Prestige. Prem+ with back up camera does not have this feature, which really pisses me off as I back along a curb into my parking place every day. Even my Acura TL-S had this feature. As they say, assumption is the mother of all...
Looks like VAG-COM may be a must for me.

Whoever the mastermind behind creating these bizarre pkg differences between the Prem + and Prestige should be fired. Here is a minor list of questionable decisions. Feel free to add.

1. No self dimming mirrors on Premium Plus models. That is a safety feature as far as I am concerned and should be in a cutting edge German Car as standard equipment.

2. B&O sound system that you pay $850 is slightly inferior in non Nav model.

3. Prem+ cars don't come equipped with Mirror that tilts down when in reverse. That is a great feature and I use it quite a bit to avoid curbs to give perfect park.

4. The Prestige Model cars don't have backup camera with Nav yet Prem + do.

5. From a lease standpoint why the difference in residuals between the two models. Would think that Prestige would have a higher resale value not the other way around.

Bells-and-whistles type options just don't hold their value as well as the car itself. Generally, the more you option up a car the lower the resale value-retention will be.

I disagree try selling a car today without NAV. Of course NAV will not hold dollar for dollar, but very desirable in aftermarket.

I'll add:

Without getting Prestige you cannot have Memory Seats, or keyless start. No way to add it ala carte.

Total BS

AGREE 100% Whoever approved these package combinations should be forced to take orders from angry customers, my guess it was the bean counters that drove the combo's, I am one so I know sometimes cost overrules logic when management is making decisions. This has me so frustrated I may not order a new one and keep driving my 04 S4 which has memory seats, auto dimming mirrors with tilt down and power folding feature, compass in rear view mirror, all with the "premium plus" equivalent. The way I want my new one it will sticker at almost $60K or I give up some those things I have become use to in my current S4 and go with the premium plus. Either make more options a-la-cart or package them logically.

My theory is that they include some goodies in the top level option package not available elsewhere in order to get people to make the leap to the next level. I know that some don't agree with this but I bet it's at least part of it.

Same thing with BMW in that you can't get Bluetooth ala carte.....you have to get the $3K+ Premium Package or Bluetooth with BMW Assist for $750 (plus subscription fee I believe). Either way they make you take options that you probably wouldn't have otherwise.
