Yeah, Vancouver Island is nice, but it is amazing how long it takes to drive from Victoria to Tofino on that small island, 5 hours to drive 200 miles. The redwoods are nice though, reminds me a little of California.

5 hours?!?!? Were you driving an oversized RV, towing a boat, and dealing with 3 kids playing ping pong off the dash behind a parade of other RVs? Usually it's about 3, including a pee stop and a quick nip into the liquor store in Port Alberni. The caravans do slow it down a lot in the summer though.
And yeah, I guess you gotta stop at the grove too....
I think NorCal is prettier, but not sure if there's skiing there? Shasta?

Thanks, Bruce! I was basking in the sun last week during my breaks at UW, trying to soak in the last rays of sunlight. I hear Seattle is going to get hit hard this winter. I don't have all seasons yet either!

NorCal skiing is in Lake Tahoe which is about 3-4 hours depending where you are located in the Bay Area.
For you NorCal folks who ski/board. Northstar bought out Heavenly so the season pass includes Northstar, Heavenly, and Sierra resorts now. The price didn't go up for the pass either.

I remember the drive to Tofino took an awful long time (around edge of summer) lots of traffic. We did stop to look at the redwood forest.
There is lots of skiing in Norcal along the Sierras & around Tahoe.

I love to visit the Bay Area like there is no tomorrow!! in the summer. But once our fun runs out(Funds or time), we love the drive back home(Reno).

More like Vail the company that owns Heavenly bought Northstar(not Sierra). The Double Whammy pass that included Northstar and Sierra now includes Heavenly. Next year, Northstar will probably be a part of the Vail family passes and sever the relationship with Sierra.
Just wanted to add my 2 cents.

I went to the UW and think that it is a very pretty campus on clear day when you go down by Drumheller foutain at look at Mt. Rainier over lake Washington.
