Don’t engine coolant/oil Leak!!
Hoping someone has “been there / done that”.
my car sat all winter. Started it up and notice a leak under. I did the non-non and tasted it. Sweet like glycol.
noticed the expansion tank level was way below min. Did a pressure test at 1 bar cold and gel pressure. Topped it up and took the car of a short drive. Parked at home and opened the hood. Steam coming from front of engine and front of engine dripping wet. Liquid on the sound panel down below. Started it up and had someone rev it up to 2500 rpm. Steam billowing from the front of the engine passenger side. Then suddenly stopped. Tried a few different rpm’s and nothing. Put the pressure tester on and it slowly drifted down as the engine cooled, but didn’t look like a leak.
now, the fluid dripping out the bottom is kinda blackish, like engine oil. And quick slippery. But, it appears to mixed with watery fluid. And you guessed it - sweet like coolant.
so it really really looks like an oil/coolant mixed leak. What could it be? The oil cooler? Can’t see it being the water pump or thermostat housing as no reason for oil to be there. Also, didn’t see any signs of coolant on the crankcase on the dipstick (used from from another car).
but if it’s the oil cooler, I would think the oil would leak into the coolant, but not blow out all over.
anyone had anything like this happen on one of these 3.0 engines? Worried it’s something worse and don’t want to take it to a shop and get a huge bill.
