A quick press turns off ESP. Holding it down for a few seconds turns off ESP and ASR.

for getting a good launch (on s-tronic) is it recommended to turn both off or just ESP?

Just ESP, it will let the wheels chirp a little, rather than the ECU killing throttle input if is senses wheel spin. Turning off ASR (which also kills ESP) is for the advanced driver. Doing this while driving aggressively WILL make the car get sideways and the system will not step in to save you.

Holding down for 5 seconds, combined with wet pavement= drifting mayhem
