More redundant threads? What's the point? Just add a poll to your earlier thread.

p.s. where's the option for $70,000 RS4 with 4.2 FSI + $9,000 JHM Vortech V3 supercharger = 530 whp/425 wtq

?

The poll is for a new stock vehicle - not aftermarket tunes which can be optioned in many ways.

Would rather see a more boost/tune *capable* base platform at a lower cost vs. a high cost 'out of the box' that there's not much room left in. (If that makes any sense).

I've managed to squeak in two $50-60K cars here and then proceed to mod my way to the performance levels I am looking for. Realize this is not a political problem that all share

It doesn't make any sense...it's a myth perpetuated by forced induction lovers who don't understand the gains possible by all motor platforms. Here's a great example using your car with the 3.0t vs. my RS4 with the 'not much room left in' 4.2 FSI.

B7 RS4 best of the day 12.28 @ 112.45
JHM 93 tune, JHM catless 2.75" downpipes, JHM 2.75" catback, JHM LWFW and stage IV clutch, JHM Intake spacers - total mods cost $4800

The best part of this was the comparison of stock vs. modded cars. The B8 and B5 guys love to say they will only buy forced induction because of how it responds to mods. Let's examine that.

B8 S4 stock time at that track 13.1 @ 106 (another stock DSG was there with us earlier)
B8 S4 with $6300 in mods 12.39 @ 111
Improvement 0.7 seconds and 5 mph
Cost = $900 per tenth and $1260 per mph

B7 RS4 stock time 13.1 @ 106 (same day, my car)
B7 RS4 with $4800 in mods 12.28 @ 112.45
Improvement 0.8 seconds and 6 MPH
Cost = $533 per tenth and $800 per mph

So...who was saying the NA cars don't respond to mods???

p.s. if anyone wants to do this analysis with primetime's car, the fastest B8 S4 in the world, even though he runs race gas and even though his fastest stock time was on pump gas, I'd be happy to. I already have actually...and the RS4 above stlll does better on a gains per $ basis. If you want to go big on the modlist, a JHM supercharged B7 RS4 will cost about $11,000 total mods (full exhaust + blower kit incl. tuning/fuelling etc. and installed and should cut about 1.5+ seconds off of a stock RS4 quarter mile time while adding about 15-20 mph. We have seen B6/7 S4s gain about 15 tenths and 12-13 mph already with this kit.
The only time the 'mod friendliness' of a forced induction B8 S4 vs. say a NA 4.2 RS4 is financially in favour of the B8 car is if you do a race gas tune and no other supporting mods. Of course that's not an entirely popular or advisable mod strategy and besides only one guy on any of the forums runs race gas all the time on his modern Audi (primetime).
