Opinions wanted. Thinking of putting my V1 remote display here, but I'll have to

Update: What I decided to do for the short term
So I looked into embedding the unit into the actual surround itself. However, to me it looks rather tight behind the trim and I really didn't want to hack it up.
Also, I don't have any skill or access to make my own custom surround to make it a very slim unit (although I have no problem removing the RJ-11 port and soldering the wire onto it).
So I decided that it would look better just to make the display not stick out so much.
I did this by taking the unit apart and basically cutting all the unnecessary plastic off the back.
Now the unit is much smaller than the original and actually fits in the corner rather well. I'll install it this weekend, but wanted to share what the unit looks like after I shaved it down.

Pic of V1 remote mounted up to the left of MMI screen
It stands out less in person than in the pic. Because it's mounted with double-stick tape to the underside of the dash overhang, it might be more stealth here than on the inside part of the MMI trim. It never blocks my view of the MMI, and the "quiet" button is easy to reach. The wire is easily routed up and over the MMI trim then down and around to the fuse area, where I put the V1 connector.
BTW, my main unit is hardwired and mounted on the passenger visor, which can still be flipped down to 90 degrees (not beyond, and of course the radar won't work in that position). In order to keep it more level for better radar performance, I put a block of dense 1/2" black foam between the forward top end of the unit and the visor.
I like your "slim down" mod for the remote and might be inclined to try that myself.
Finally a quick V1 success story: I've had the V1 for about a year, and it might have saved me a few times (who knows for sure), but a couple of weeks ago I had the most obvious save yet. I was just coming over a hill on a slightly remote freeway. The V1 screamed and I slowed from probably 80 or so down to about 65. Then a few moments later saw the CHP sitting under an overcrossing, as I drove by safely.

Nice work tucking the cable in there. Did you just go above the trim? How is the cable routed underneath?
Personally, I think it looks a bit bulky from this angle. Might look a bit better with the "slim down" mod or in person...

Installed Pics: I just need to tuck the top wire in a little better. I may also make a small slot in the side of the panel to pass the wire, but for now this will do.

Thought of that, but that's too much hacking of the vent for my taste. Just drove the car with it in the location I posted and like it. It is just to the right of the speedo, I can reach the button no problem and the slim version doesn't block the screen.
I just need to tuck the wire in a little better at the top or make a small slot in the plastic to run the wire through then crimp on a new end.
