Transmission issue recommendation
While driving my daughter around VA for soccer my transmission warning with loss of Reverse came on. I was able to get to an Audi dealership where they diagnosed a bad TCM. The car was not driveable so I headed back to NY while they worked on it.
Just heard from them and the car is back in running shape however they said once it warms up it can, at times, shift abruptly from 2nd to 1st and at times when it upshifts. I said yes it has been doing that occassionaly for 8,000 miles and I have seen forums regarding this in other s4's and there were software updates for this. He said they have done every update possible and its still there. He feels it is a front or forward clutch plate issue and that it is just a matter of time before the tranny has to be replaced.($8k-12k) He recommended sell it to a car buyer and get into something else.
THe car only has 75,000 miles and I have not had a lick of trouble with it up to now.
Has anyone run into this ? Can the front clutch plate be fixed without getting a new tranny? 75,000 miles seems like bs to me to be looking at a new one.

I had my dash light up once and reverse was disabled. Shutoff the car and turned it back on, and it never did it again. Asked the dealer and was told no codes were found. Car has been fine for several thousand km... Knock on wood

Mine had hard faults that when cleared immediately came back. I picked up the car late last night and it is driving fine so far. Time will tell and I am keeping a log on any bs that happens going forward.

Picked it up last Friday and it seems to be running well. I have reverse back and yes it was a TCM/mechitronics issue that had to be replaced. The downshifts from 2nd to 1st are not noticeable anymore. I do notice, at times the upshifts between 2-4 more on hills when I step on it. Otherwise it is still a great car. I will be driving this for another 125,000 miles as it is too much fun to turn in.
