Default Bloomberg Worst Luxury Cars of 2018 - Audi S4 makes the list!

I mus say that I disagree vehemently with just about about every car/SUV selection on this list. The S4's crime for making this list is that it's too boring inside and out. The red Black Optics Audi S4 in the picture actually looks gorgeous. Comparison of S4 to the M3 and C63 AMG is off the mark too. It should be compared against the 340i and C43 AMG against whom it compares very well. I'm not a Lexus fan but the LC500 is a gorgeous luxury coupe. The Acura RDX and Infiniti QX50 are hardly terrible SUVs either. This author must have been on crack when she compiled her list.

FWIW, her list of best cars of 2018 includes the 2019 Audi A8 in the best sedan category.

Disregard and move forward amicably. With so much bureaucracy, politics, and decisions dictated by sponsors in journalism, you can't rely too much on car reviews by them.

Case & Point: Our S4 has a 28 year legacy and can do 0-60 in 4.2 seconds, I'd say that's pretty well rounded.

There is so much wrong with that article it isn't even worth addressing, but there are a few whoppers:
- The new RDX has garnered almost universal praise and is selling like crazy. Why compare it to a 2.0T Porsche Macan, which is at least $10k more expensive?
- I agree that the S4's styling certainly isn't daring, but I don't see how anyone can argue that the barely styled exterior of a Model 3 is more interesting.
- Why criticize the S4 for being slower than an M3 and C63? If one is interested in making absurd comparisons, why not compare the S4 to a C300 or 330i?

I chose the S4 because it's quiet and unobtrusive, but if you nudge it and tell it to wake up and play, it moves with startling purpose. Sure, it's not the fastest thing on the road. It's more than fast enough for the real world. I am old enough not to want excitement built in to my daily driver.

Edit: but we all clicked through and read it! The author has accomplished his mission.

Stupid article. The reviewer does not understand that the S4 competes directly with the Merc C43 (which it ties in 0-60) and BMW 340xi (which it beats). It is the RS4, which is not available in North America, that competes with the C63 and M3.

The looks component is 100% subjective. And if it makes anyone feel any better: https://www.automotiveworld.com/news...xury-car-year/

Everybody is entitled to have an opinion. For example, if the reviewer feels the exterior and interior are bland, hopefully the readers will and potential buyers will form their own opinion. Being an S4 owner, I also feel the exterior is bland. There should be some body enhancements to better separate it from the A4. I disagree with the writers opinion on the interior, very modern but functional. Thankfully, and for today, it doesn't have the dual screen layout that are starting to be rolled out in other vehicles.

Agreed, it should be compared with same class vehicles (C43, 340i, Q50 Red Sport, etc.).

In my opinion, is the S4 a class leader, no. However, it is competitive and worthy of ownership consideration.

Apparently the author is not well versed on his chosen subject. If he would have included the true competitions (3 series, C430) he would have fewer negative things to reference..

Yes, she doesn't realize the competition for an S4 is not an M3 and C63, but rather a 340 and C43.

You want to know how fuc*ed up the article is?

Scroll down where it talks about the A8, and in the link and the title, it references the R8.

That type of journalism fail is an attestation to how poorly the article is written.

Bolding is mine

Congrats on messing up two entirely different cars.

Thanks for posting this.
And with no offense to the OP, even the preface was enough to not want to go read it on the grounds of zero credibility.
Even the BMW M2 is more on par with a direct comparison to the S4 than the M3, and that is STILL a stretch.

Meanwhile, I continue to enjoy everything about my S4, except of course, the payments.
