Gas tank
#3
It has a slightly larger tank than my old R32, and it gets better gas mileage than the R32. So, overall, I am ok with the tank size. But yes, I know it would be better if it was a little bigger.

I completely agree about the small fuel tank. It is the same size tank as the A4...which is a lighter and obviously more economical vehicle.
And gas mileage hasn't improved much for this type of vehicle over the years. My 2011 S4 got nearly the exact same gas mileage as my 2019 S4.
And yes, it is what it is...no car is perfect.

I've had a 2004 (V8), a 2007 (V8), a 2010 (SV6), a 2013 (SV6), a 2016 (SV6) and now the 2018 (T6). I agree about mileage not changing much but it did improve a bit going from the supercharged 6 to the current turbocharged 6. I went from about 18 average to about 21-22 average now. Same driving conditions on all.

Certification standards require the car to be tested with the fuel tank filled to 90% of capacity. It is a weight saving factor.
Also, there are several versions of the A4, and the 2.0TFSI quattro is one of the more powerful versions. The more frugal versions of the A4 have a smaller fuel tank.

Are you guys taking long trips or is it inconvenient to get to a gas station or something? Or do you just put a lot of miles on the car requiring you to fill up every few days? I do about 10.5K/year and fill up every 8-10 days so maybe I'm missing the point.

For the cars in this segment, most manufacturers target minimum driving range of roughly 350 miles, and max of 450 miles using average EPA fuel estimates. With the kind of (spirited) driving I do, I usually get 75% - 80% of those average EPA estimates irrespective of the car.
I end up filling gas roughly every 300 miles. I agree cars like S4/S5/RS5 can benefit from a slightly larger larger fuel tank.
