Default *New information regarding ATP's GT28RS Turbo Kit*

I was doing my routine check of ATPTurbo.com hoping to discover some new posted information on the kit. Just as always, I didn't see anything new.

...however, I saw a link for information that said "Vehicle Specific". Went ahead and clicked on it and it brought me to a page that had a listing of ATP's turbo applications, the horsepower, whether or not it's intercooled, the stage and price.

Believe it or not, the Audi S4 2.7T was listed there but was not a clickable link. However, they did have some new specs/information on the kit:

Horsepower: 500

Intercooled: Yes

Stage: 3

Price: TBD

...So just briefly looking over the new info we can see a few things. First of all, the HP is obviously a bit deceiving in my opinion. ATP rates their HP in this list by crank. So 450 to the wheels seems to be their goal with a stage three set up. Stage 3 seems to be their highest stage as well - judging from all the other kits they've produced in the past...stage 3 has never been exceeded.

They do say in the original announcement that the power will be anywhere from 400-800 HP, so who knows what sort of numbers we'll be seeing. 500 crank HP is a bit dissapointing when you consider the fact that the K04's are capable of such numbers and the GT28RS's are capable of a WHOLE lot more.

Another interesting thing is that they say "yes" to the intercooler. ATP's created many front mounted intercoolers for their kits and can possibly be the separation between two stages. It would be awesome to have an efficient and afforable FMIC (Unlike DUH engineering...efficient yes...afforable...no).

I'll still be on the look out for new info!

Here's the link for people who want to check it out for themselves.

Default Which is why I said I didn't see anything new. It's more of a discovery of the page.

Though the information in it had good enough info to be posted since it had never been discussed or talked about. Just trying to shed light on anything new on the kit because i've been trying to get as much information I can. Just trying to help :-)

Default If they quote $2400 for the 1.8, I can only imagine what it will cost for the 2.7-----> $5 large?

for the turbos alone.

Default Can someone explain to me why everyone is so excited about this?

Aren't all the Stage 3 kits being limited by detonation, not boost? I can make 1.5 bar efficiently with my turbos, but that doesn't mean the engine will like it - unless this is just for 100 octane max power. Or do they generate a lot less heat?

I thought they would generate less heat in our application(s)? No?

That would be good - also maybe less backpressure due to larger turbine housings?

Default From what I understand, the amount of boost you run in a turbo as large as a GT28RS

will be a lot less than a smaller K04 to produce the same HP numbers. This is especially true when you're running two GT28RS's. 400 HP to the wheels has been made on a single GT28RS with boost set at around 20 psi...if you're running twins, the boost for each turbo will be lower (say 10 PSI per turbo) which in turn will reduce the amount of heat generated.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but the higher the PSI the hotter and harder the turbos get. So by putting on larger turbos that don't need to boost as high as say a K04...you will not produce as much heat because the PSI is lower.

This might also play a role in reduced detonation if it keeps cooler. Any opinion on this?

No, definitely not the case. All stage 3 cars are *not* being limited by detonation.
