Default 1:30am last night, go to put quarters in the meter, see my S being towed!!!!

I couldn't believe it at first. Turns out the stupid signs on Sunset Blvd (LA) say no parking midnight to 7am saturday. this was last night, so technically they were right, but couldn't they have said 12AM instead of midnight? i'm sure they did that on purpose. about 3 other cars were being towed, too.

So I BEGGED the guy "You can't tow my car!! It has quattro, you'll ruin the transmission. PLEASE!!!! Don't do this!!!" i told him i'd pay the fee just as long as he didn't tow the car (it was already raised and ready to go.

Would you believe he let me go for free? I still can't believe it. Unheard of. I'm so so so so relieved!!!

Default Question - if he did tow it, wouldn't he be responsible for the damages?

I've always wondered if what happens if a tow company damages your car - it seems to me they would never treat it nicely, and it would be rare that a towed car wouldn't at least get scratched. Are they responsible for any damages?

Default That is a tough one. Cnsidering if it is towed because of...

a legal infraction, you might get a too bad so sad argument.

Legally, I would think they'd be responsible. Would they pay? that's another story.

It's expensive to valet on Sunset but cheaper than a ticket or tow. Good you lucked out.

just make sure you take anything valuable out of the car first. sunset valets are the worst for lifting anything and everything out of your car.

Default Damn - you have to feed the meter at 1:30am?

I thought meters stopped running at that hour and hence, free parking until the next morning? Maybe not in LA...

Default At least in Massachusetts, they ARE responsible for damage.

And they are supposed to know better than to tow an AWD car without a dolly or flatbed.

Default On sunset and a couple other places, the meters run till 2am and it's $1/hr

but that's usually a lot cheaper than valet (can be $10 or $20!) plus I fuggin hate valet and don't trust those a$$wipes.
