10 reasons why buying the RS6 is not a good idea.
1. First MY - chance for too many unresolved bugs.
2. Overheating - if the engineers were having such a problem with too much engine heat melting various components, I really question the engine's longevity over the long term, especially when one considers that the S4 turbo failure rate may well be related to underhood temperatures (more failures in summer, more failures in the 2.7 TT in the S4 as compared to the A6 and the Allroad).
3. Price inflation. First estimates were about 70K. Now Autoweek is saying 80K. Who knows what's next? With tax, options, fees, etc., we're looking at 90K. Then the question of dealer mark-up arises. For 70 K, it might be worth it. For 90+K, definitely not.
4. 5 speed auto vs. a 6 speed. No explanation needed.
5. Handling. It may be powerful but it's still a 4000+ lb. whale.
6. Promised aluminum parts. That could change at a whim. Remember the aluminum upright fiasco. Ditto for the composite brakes.
7. The rear end is downright ugly. For a part of the car which most of the competition will see a lot of, it's just not in keeping with the attractive front and side views.
8. Obtaining parts. If you thought parts for the S4 were long in coming, think about how long it'll take to get these rare specialty parts from Quattro GmbH in Germany.
9. Insurance. Gonna be high on this one. And will it be as easy to steal in NJ as the S4? I haven't seen anything about a better security system.
10. Granted, you don't buy something like this with gas mileage in mind but I think it'll be one of the all-time gas guzzlers and considering the situation in the Middle East, this thing could become a white elephant.
There ... I feel much better having justified NOT going for this one ..... :-(

The price probably isn't a huge consideration but the "down time" definitely is.
Most of the turbo failures that occurred with the S4 happened during the first year of ownership so when I said longer term, this was the time frame I had in mind. I don't know about most folks but for me, time is usually a more precious commodity than money. If I drop big bucks on a car, I want to be able to drive it, not have it sitting in a dealer's service department for weeks waiting for parts. Also, the service personnel is not likely to be familiar with the car and this could lead to issues as well.

My deposit (and the cash) for the car is already available and I would have been
one of the very first on the list. But true, it'd be a decent strategy if that was my motivation. I'm just coming at it from a "sour grapes" perspective to justify my rationalization for NOT buying the car.

I agree. However, the missing 6 speed could be an issue; we'll have to wait and see how well the
paddles shifting slush box mimics a stick; they're saying it's an improvement over a standard tiptronic. If it is, this might be the ticket to satisfy me and my wife.

Those Parktronic sensors remind me of pimples, that spoiler reminds me of a roll of fat
around the middle, and that mesh on the bottom reminds me of a hairy butt. Yecchhh!!! But to each his own.
