1500 mile update
Imola has past the 1500 mile post-crash point, and we celebrated it with a speeding ticket! :-(
But the car is still awesome! No rattles, or funnies at all, outside of a rear muffler that will strike the body on extreme bumps, just needs a tweaking of the hanger position. The JB Weld/4mm bolt combination repair for the power steering mounts are holding fast, and given the static and dynamic pressure angles on that mount, I see no reason the fix will not last as long as the car. The fractures were caused by forces 90 degrees out of line with what they were designed for, and the fractured part carries no load or stress from the pump operation, all dynamic stresses are in a downward direction, against the solid part of the mount.
I will get the wheels aligned this weekend, and that will help tell the tale of frame twist, but the tires show no signs of unusual wear, and the steering is true, no pulling.
Remaining items include the passenger wheel well splash guard, still back ordered, but the damaged one is in there doing a fine job. The horn ring/air bag needs a minor positional tweak, to perfectly center it. The hood is offset to the passenger side by about .05", but only an OCD like myself would notice it. I will do the fine adjustment to the hood some weekend when I feel like torturing myself, the increment of adjustment seems to be greater than the error offset in this assembly! I've seen new S4s and A4s with worse offsets, there is about that much lateral play in the hinges, but with some playing, I can make it hit exact center, I am sure!
Gas milage has not been as good with the MTM Stage 3, but I attribite that to the nut behind the wheel, it's so hard to stay out of the massive boost! Brake dust has increased with the Stage 3, also, that tells you where the gas is going! I am attending the Quattro Club event at Curry's in NoVA this Saturday, and I'll get a better feel for any effect on gas milage on that 2 hour, generally brakeless, drive.
Imola is back, kicking *** and taking names!
