17965 - Charge Pressure Control: Positive Deviation DTC on VAG...(UPDATE)
Took my aggressive Imola Tip to Dr. AWE yesterday (Friday afternoon). Yep, the IC hose (on the recently installed AWE ICs) had blown off (I was only boosting @ 12 psi when this happened) AND I also had a leak in the pipe connecting the TBB to the IC (passenger side).
The latter was the result of a missing screw/bolt that was supposed to secure the pipe under pressure. Since the screw/bolt was missing - the pipe would shift just enough (under boost) to produce a leak.
Anyway, Dr. AWE only charged me for 1/2 hr of diagnostic time. The blown IC hose (not clamped properly) was definitely a by-product of my recent AWE IC install, so that was a "warranty" item.
I guess I could made an issue about the TBB pipe being a result of the AWE IC install too, but it wasn't worth it, I just wanted my Imola back in working order. So, paying for a 1/2 of shop time wasn't worth fighting over.
I want to thank those on the board who responded to my original post and correctly pinpointed one (the IC hose) of my boost leak problems. Even the AWE tech had some difficulty pin-pointing the boost leak problem in the pipe btw the TBB and ICs (cause it only happened under boost when the pipe would shift just enough to cause a small gap in the connection btw the IC & pipe).
Feels nice to kick some a$$ again!

there is only 1 standard tipchip now. its the old "race chip".
the standard chip was suppossed to stop gear hunting...not sure if ANYONE has this and if it worked or not. the race chip speeds up shifts in tip mode suppossedly making it easier on teh tranny (personaly i thnk its easier in one sense and harder on it in another)...it does nothing to address hunting between 4 and 5.

X really sux without the Tip Chip - don't do it!
It gear-hunts, and bucks, and the massive torque clunks on changes. Bad news !
Other chips are ok - but X torques comes on at just the wrong time for the shift points

The Tranny Failures Occur As Result of The Increased Torque The "X"-Chip Puts On The Tip Tranny.....
If you add DPs and bigger ICs like I did - u have mega torque hitting the Tip tranny. Plus, as mentioned before, the torque curve is altered from factory specs with the aftermkt mods. The Tip Chip handles some of this increased pressure on the tranny, but it doesn't eliminate all evils. Like I said in my other posts, it wasn't until I installed the Greddy Profec B (EBC) that "gear hunting" was eliminated. The Profec B gives the driver control over wastegate actuation, I believe (as other posters have mentioned before me) that wastegate actuation plays a part in "gear hunting" on Tips. All I can say, it's GREAT to not have "gear hunting" issues anymo' !
