Photographers control the original image and the rights of manipulation of the same
Time to read up on copyright law. Your statements are pretty ignorant.
If I took a picture of Michael Jordan dunking and sold it to Nike who in turn took the NBA logo off his jersey without my permission, this would be a violation. Same as with using an image to base a drawing or concept around without permission.
Wheaties lost a $3 million suit over ONE Wheaties box over this exactly.

Or at least ask. The real issue is the copyright violation. Llist of recent copyright awards
Defendents:
Notre Dame - $1.6 mil
UNC- Chapel Hill - $3.6 mil
Penn State;- $3.1 mil
CBS - $3.8mil
ABC-1.2 mil
Oracle - $981,000
AT&T - $430,000
And so on.
The university/college suits were by small time photographers who's photos were used and sold (put on products) without hteir permission.
The statutes pound you pretty hard and are variable based in intent, profit, duration, direct damages, aggregiousnes, etc.

No, it' accurate for him and everyone else to say you've broken the law
and now that you've been refreshed about copyright law, you will have no future defense.
If you want to use a photo for personal use, you need the permission of the following:
1) Photographer
2) Anyone identifiable in the photo
If you want to use a photo for commercial use, you need the following:
1) Permission from the photographer
2) Permission from anyone identifiable in the photo
3) Permission from any corporate or other commercial entity visible in the photo.
If you want to use a photo for editorial use, you need only to have photographed from a legal position.
Not too difficult.

No, I do not video tape any programs. I don't own a VCR. Chris, you're not getting it...
...my stance has nothing to do with copy right laws. I'm talking about common courtesy.
You used someone else's picture, no big deal. This person asked you not to use it. You should not use it. That is all. It's respect.
And now, you deserve the...
...KICKINGS!!! :-P

Perfectly legal. It's not a lie if you believe it. You used a fed registered photo without release
or permission, period, end of story.
Your grasp of copyright law is so far from accurate it's sad.
Try reading up on the net. All the law is right there.
I'd drop the issue before the issue gets forced.

now Mike...
come on man - she got her head up her... - let's face it - I changed it enough so it would not be up for discussion - the classy thing to do is not get on your high horse and bring down something positive - it took time and effort to do that sig and I got back handed by her with her remarks in this post - hit the link
all in all she a bit of a baby if you ask me - but I'm sure your not

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/1622146.phtml</a

She'd being tough as he never apologized, he jumped all over her
All he has to do was ask and be polite.
Let's see:
1) He stole a photographers photo (the permission for use came from where?)
2) He modified it without permission
3) He used the same photo as her sig
4) He broke the law
5) He didn't apologize, but attacked and name called.
6) He continues to defend his position without merit or legal backing.
If it's no big deal, he should start scanning and using Audi broshure pics and wait for his cease and desist and then summons.

The way SHE handled it? How about I take your sig's you put tons of time into
and modify them and use them in any way I want, then distribute them freely on the net.
When you call me on it and ask me to stop and provide me with the ability to purchase said sig, I same you and attack you on the net.
The root of this is the stolen photo, get it? If you didn't take the photo, you'd have no issue and this never would have started.

and taking a photo and chaging it is "not" illegal as well...
as long as I change it by (Ithink 15 to 20%) it's perfectly legal - I think she attacked - remember - she was also being petty - I could care less what she as to say now - all in all she's a pain in the **** for even bringing such a "small" thing up in the first place
