2.7T 6-speed manual transmission update
Here's a post I put in the A6 forum. Thought it might be appropriate here as well.
I reported a week ago an issue regarding my transmission that will lead to it’s replacement. I have received an update on this issue that I think the board members may find interesting.
It seems that the replacement transmission has been upgraded. Audi stated that there is a know issue with the first to second gear synchronizing hub (I have little idea what part of the transmission I have just described). It seems the most recent production (Audi didn’t say when they started using this transmission) uses an upgraded transmission. Looks like the individuals that went through this previously may not have sacrificed their time in vain as Audi seems to have learned from the previous experiences. It’s never any fun to go through this (8 days without it so far and still Audi has not managed to deliver the new unit) but at least Audi is trying to improve their product rather than just slapping another one on.
The issue that prompted this replacement was a near inability to put the car in either first or second gear. So I guess the explanation given would fit the problem. Just in case anyone else is experience this issue.

So, do you think '01 S4's that have been delivered already have the new or old transmission?
My '01 S4 has a build date of 5/00. I hope that would be late enough to have the new transmission and possibly avoid any problems like the one you experienced.

The daler lead me to beleieve ...
... that this is a change in the current production. As to when that change took place, they didn't elaborate. So I don’t know if all 01’s have it or if the change went in after the 01 production run. My guess would be that the switch-over would happen around when the new transmission was ready and the old supply ran out as opposed to the start of a production run. So I would guess there are some 01’s with and some without.
