2001 S4 tiptronic shifting
I have a 2001 S4 with 1600 miles on it. I've noticed a shifting problem at about 10mph. When slowing down but not stopping at a yield sign, I hit the gas pedal at a normal rate and engine seems to spin without a load, then the car will engage either first or second gear. When I do this the car seems to slam into gear. I have had the car back to the dealer twice and they told me the computer said all is okay! In my opinion this does not seem normal. If you have had an experience like this please let me know how Audi fixed the problem. Any info on this would be helpful. It seems the dealer is depending on the computer a little more than they should.

es, this is the dreaded “clunk” its annoying but totally normal...
you have to be aware when slowing down if the car has shifted into 1st yet and either accelerate BEFORE it does or AFTER it does. Eventually you get a feel for it but it’s a stupid design defect that no self-respecting Japanese manufacturer would let out the door...I think it shows contempt and lack of basic understanding of the need for automatic transmissions and shows Audi’s half-assed efforts to RELUCTANTLY put one in.
Oh well, maybe the next generation of ZF boxes wll be better.<p><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/carssmall4.jpg">
