My buddy Joe meet him and talked with him for a bit at SEMA...
He showed me a picture of them standing next to each other. They had their hands in a fist butted up to one another to show the difference. Randy's fist was just about TWICE as tall as Joe's.
Joe also said that he was a really nice guy to talk to.

Costs vs. other stuff...
There was a bit in Autoweek a while back about one of the competitive suppliers working to get cost down.
Ours is a different technology, and so far it looks to be working a lot better than some of the OE systems that are available. But the material is very expensive and difficult to manufacture, and there's really little magic on cost. Different manufacturers of the materials have different strategies for getting the end result, but it's still materials and energy. We're doing what we can to control costs, but having a system that lives up to the promise of ceramics is more important than having it cost less.
We haven't announced anything, but we expect our pricing for a complete system to be within the envelope of the various OE option prices, or close to it.

Unidirectional plies versus chopped carbon fibers...
The material we're using is a layup of unidirectional fibers in alternating directions. Kinda like an F1 chassis tub What you're seeing on the surface is the final machining cutting across the boundary between those layers. The long fibers make our material extremely mechanically sound. Most of the technologies available in automotive brake systems use much shorter, chopped fibers.
