Its a fantastic car...
Audi are marketing the allroad (small a) as a seperate car even thou it is a modified A6
The build quality, styling and finish are 1st rate.
I have only driven the diesel but it has plenty of overtaking punch and is a very smouth ride with good handling, better than a stock A6 i would say,
It lowers itself as you speed up to increase stability. It is in reality for most people the best car/off roader you can buy, being excellent on all but the worst off road situations and capable of 150mph with the v6 biturbo unit.

325ix
I did own a 325xi 3years ago, it was a good 4wd. On the other hand a 4wd BMW is just half a BMW. I always told my mother that I will buy a BMW when I will feel myself as a car driver. BMW are dangerous but so exinting to drive. If BMW restart on the 4wd market they will fight with a good product, It will be a interesting challenge for Audi. BMW is loosing so many customer because the Audi quattro that they have to provide a 4wd for secure driver.
Propulsion needs a driving level that most of the normal driver doesn't have. It is easy to see; in europe when the rain is beginning, the first accident you see is a BMW out of the road. (did you remark it also?)

Why did they discontinue the IX in the early 90's?
Are they going to run into the same problem, where most people think of quattro, when they think of an AWD perfomance car?Also Audi has over 20 years of AWD knowledge, which will be hard for BMW to catch up to. It will be interesting to see how there system holds up.

"BMW = untrained driver" addition to equation
BMW = untrained driver + ego^(10^100000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000) * cellphoneInHand * latteInCupHolder * noseHeldHigh = AccidentWaitingtoHappen
