About 1/4 times - I have some good questions?
First off
When I go to the drag strip I feel my car will go below the "magic" 12
so what happens then?
I feel they won't let back on the track without roll bars
So what's next ?
I'm not going to put roll bars in so how can I improve on my times "legally".
No chance!
I saw a article on the g-tech pro and the Passport G-Timer
Would that be the best way to get times?
Would that stand up in a forum like this?
Can anybody tell me the best way to go about this?
Is there something else out there that I'm not aware of?
I'm not going to go around each drag strip in the US.
So - any ideas
Cheers
Chris

first run that number!!
Then we can go on Gtech or VagCom acceleration numbers.
Log block 003 and we can get 0-60 0-100 60-100 times and compare with what the RAGS have for like and not so like vehicles. Acceleration graphs are a good indicator of power.
But first, run it! hehehe

enh, without a timeslip, it aint official...
I know a guy with a chipped tipronic turbo who runs mid to low 11s and he goes until they kick him out...but he has an official timeslip to show what his car does and then he does bracket-racing with it and keeps it above 12 flat to stay on the good side of the NHRA rules.
GTechs and their ilk are notorious and though they CAN be set up to be pretty darn accurate, nobody in the world is going to believe a time posted with a GTech because they're prone to wild error depending on how well they're used.
I can't imagine anyone spending a fortune modding their car and then not taking it out to a dragstip, since this is the only place that all those mods are going to be of "value".

rollout and segment/trap speeds are the measure of straight-line performance...
a VAG log doesn't provide that and doesnt put the measurement in an equal frame of reference with what other people have done.
You can get logs during a run but without a timeslip, it is all speculation.

Well that depends
On the track officials. I've seen a few cars run low 11's without bars. I'd imagine since your running street car and normal tires (I assume...) and you have a full interior, they may just overlook you. It would be best to go there during a test and tune day (most often friday) and lay down some "easy" runs. After you get comfortable with your technique start dropping down to low 12's and see if they say anything to you. If not on the next run make it a winnar and see what she'll do. At least that way you can get some runs in without the giant broom coming out from the tower and whisking you away after your first run.

I don't think it's the _only_ place they are of value...
I've spent a damn fortune on this car and it's never been to a dragstrip, nor do I intend to take it to one. Yes, everything I've done is complete overkill for the street, and the dragtrip is the place where this would have the biggest advantage, but...
I do have a good time on the racetrack with it, and I have a much better time now that it's modded for a couple of reasons. The first is that acceleration is always a fun feeling. More is better. The second is that when I'm at a track event with somebody like the Nor-Cal Shelby club or Greenflag it can be frustrating. Some of them can be dicks if you don't have an American car... After you catch them in the turns they floor it on the straight and don't let you pass; so you're stuck behind them until you can pit and wait for an open spot. With the mods I can outrun them or at the very least keep up enough that they realize they should let me by. It's also amusing to see the looks on their faces when a 4-door sedan passes them.
