After 4 visits, 9 days in shop & $3,000 - my airbag issue has been solved.
Short summary:
1st visit, 2 days in shop - air bag light came on, VAG says driver side seat belt tensioner. Replaced but light still on. Aftermarket warranty will not cover air bag issues.
2nd visit, 2 days in shop - air bag module replaced, light still on. Further testing shows short in wiring harness. Old module put back in.
3rd visit, 2 days in shop - wiring harness that was ordered was the wrong one & it is determined that the entire interior wiring harness has to be replaced which means removing the entire interior, dash, headliner etc. My car is a '00 with only 42,000 miles. Audi says they will pay 1/2 of the repair.
4th visit - 3 days in shop - entire interior was gutted & basically all the wiring was replaced. Total bill was just over $3,000. About $2200 of that in labor. Crap like this should never happen. I'm to the point I will never own another Audi out of warranty.
Strongs in SLC, treated me very well and gave me an A4 2.0T loaner while my car was down, but damn. I'm tired of this thing breaking down, especially with low mileage & well cared for.
At least the aftermarket warranty covered the thermostat, & dash cluster.

So that's how it worked out huh. As you know, my airbag ECU is shot at only 52k...
luckily, my fix was cheap b/c I found a used part. but i am very seriuosly considering getting out of this thing. If I can lease a new 330i for what I pay on this, i'm done with it.
