Default After STFA, I want to confirm that is this the fuel sender problem

I've had my car about say a week and a half now, really haven't gotten to drive it too much(long story with insurance). Anyway I'm driving along and notice the fuel gauge is at 1/2 full, next thing I know its 1/4 full. I was shocked, but what truly surprised me is when it when to 3/4 full in about 3 seconds later. It continued to fluxuate like that until I got home. After searching the archives it looks like this is a problem with the fuel sender? Does that seem likely? If so I'm supposed to go down the shore this weekend should I leave the Audi behind? My other reason for asking for clarification is I'd like to have a rough idea of what is actually malfuctioning when I bring it in to the dealer for service (Bell Audi, NJ) so as to avoid a run around. Thanks for your help in advance.

Default yep, I had similar symptoms....mine finally went to empty....

and stayed there - and the annoying little fuel warning kept going off.

New fuel sending unit fixed it right up!!!

I did it myself and used the intructions on this page...very simple to do (oh, I did not bother soldering anything, just bought a new unit)

http://www.robsaudiworld.com/fuelrepair.htm</a

Default Thanks for the confirmation, it just ticks me off..

That I've put less then 100 miles on the car which only had 13,500 to start with and already I'm having problems. Especially since the car was certified by Audi for an extended warrenty, and they didn't notice this in their inspection of the car??

Default kind of a pain, but no big deal really.....wait until your....

turbos explode 3,000 miles after your warranty ends (happened to me...)

Oh, by the way, I heard of a person on here who was told by a dealer that they needed to take all sorts of crap apart to search for the cause - like the entire dash....do not let them do this to your car - I'm 99.99999% sure it is the sending unit and if they want to do a bunch of other crap to it, I'd buy the part myself, install it and be done with it!

Default My 02 just did the same thing starting last week. It only has 11k on it. (m)

I called the dealer to schedule an appointment today to get a new sending unit. The service rep told me Audi did a recall awhile back on, like 2 yrs ago?, and they've seen a bunch go bad. But they told me it takes a full day to do the repair?!? That doesn't seem right....

I've never laid eyes on a fuel sending unit and it took me 30 minutes - start to finish!
