airbag light
Recently the airbag light has been staying on when I start my '00 S4. It eventually goes out. If it stays on long enough, it flashes rapidly, then goes on solid and then goes out. It doesn't matter whether the seat belt is buckled or not. It does not set a code.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

In my experience, VAG tells you to turn car off when attempting to check airbag module.
No deployment here, lol.
Ed broadhead,
I just had a similar issue. My airbag light was staying on all the time, though...no flashing or eventually going out. Here are a few posts explaining my situation and how it was resolved:

The code I was getting would not clear. In other words, it was a hard fault code. Therefore, I callled the dealer and took it in for service.

Re: Check the airbag module like WIndyCity suggested. There should be a fault code in there.
I checked for codes with a generic reader. Guess I'll have to check with a VAG or equivalent unit. Like everyone else it happens in cold weather.
With the frequency of failures I'm surprised there hasn't been a recall. Especially if the airbags are deactivated.
An airbag light in a Porsche doesn't deactivate the airbags.

Is it frequent? Yours is the first I remember seeing. And yes, generic readers only scan the ECU.
I have seen others with airbag lights, but only after they removed the seat.
