AlexE's car has been recovered!
He got a call from Newark (duh!) PD, and he's on his way down there right now to take a look.
For some strange reason, they won't tell him what shape the car is in, tho' we all know it won't have headlights (at the very least)
I'm sure he'll post more tonite...

Why do you say that? He's actually taking this quite well
All said and done, he's dealing with this a lot better than I would have...he's started looking for a replacement already! (what better way to assuage the woe of a lost car than to test out a new one?)

Yeah, Newark police wouldn't tell me anything over the phone either (m).
I had to spend a large part of the day waiting in line at the police department in downtown Newark just to get the paperwork to have the towing yard release my car. Then I had to go to the towing yard and stand in line to find out where in their lot my poor car was, go view it, and then tell them what I wanted done with it. I don't know which was more scary, the police station or the towing yard.
Incidentally, mine still had headlights too. The thugs had gotten in a minor accident and must have fled after that because nothing was stripped off the car, just personal items taken out of it.

Well, I hope it's either near perfect then or completely totalled. (m)
My guess is it will be like most and have $5,000-$20,000 damage, which means the insurance company will want to get it fixed. Even if it is totalled, I doubt he'd get full replacement value. Even blue book would not be enough to get him a similar S4. As much as I hate to admit it, and as much as the purists here on AW would chastize me for it, I was glad mine was salvagable with only $8,000 damage because I sure would have been screwed financially with what I still owed on my car loan if it would have been lost or totalled.
