Default Several...

even a Dinan SC'd one. of course, these are all at autoxes. comes down to the driver. they can certainly take on an S4 (esp. the dinan ones) but the am't of power to the rear wheels on those things usually gets the driver to back off more often than not.

Heard BMW will stop production on the Mroadsters and coupes for a year or so b/c they want to reevaluate how to match up all that power to a car that size - too many folks misjudging how powerful they are and end up somewhere other than the road. this is what i was told from a bmw employee. hard to believe but that was what i was told. probably abit more to it than that.

Default Re: Several...

I own an M Coupe and it is very hard to handle. The short wheelbase causes it to lose its tail quite easily. I've owned both the M Coupe and M3, and my brother had an S4. Since he sold the S4 before I bought the M Coupe, I'm still very curious as to how these cars would compare in acceleration (0-60 and 1/4 mile).
From driving these 3 cars, I would have to say that:
The M3 is the best handling car (it can easily be controlled at its limits)
The S4 is the easiest to handle for beginner/intermediate drivers
The M Coupe is the most fun (and is a great handler with the right person behind the wheel).

So the question is:
Which car would you put money on in a 1/4 mile race, the S4 or the M Coupe?

Default oh no another 1/4 mi. test...

but i'd put my money on the Mcoupe if the s4 was stock. if the s4 had a chip and exhaust, it'd be pretty close.

i'm not a 1/4 mile person though. done it a couple times and though my reaction time was good (nervous as hell, i guess), everything else sucked (60', so on and so on).

kinda feel like both of these two cars should be taken around turns. that's me though.

i will say that the launch on an s4 is beyond anything you've probably ever felt. which also makes it a blast to drive even if you do lose the 1/4 mile to a sneaker

c'mon it does look like a basketball shoe! no offense!

Default no production stop for the Z3 models but for the mcoupe/roadsters...

the disparity b/w the 225hp 3.0L that comes with the Z3 is too close to the 240hp 3.2L MCoupe/Roadsters.

I think that's what he was telling me. somehow, bmw needs to figure out what to do with their MRoadster/Coupes now that the new Zs get more hp/torque. They could jack up the next gen MCoupes/Roadsters with the E46 M3 engine but that would be overkill. hence, the hiatus.

Default I've owned an M Coupe and a M3 Also

I would agree with everything that you said above. In my opinion the M Coupe is twitchy when it comes to handling, but without a doubt the most fun car to drive!

The M3 is just an incredible handling car...you can drive the car to its limits and it's easily controllable in every way.

The S4 is not as much of a drivers car as the cars above, but is the best daily drive because of its ride and quattro. It's a more comfortable car than the bimmers.

By the way...I'm selling the M Coupe for the S4!
David J
