Anyone done a track event in a Tiptronic?
I'm wondering if anyone has done a track event in a Tiptronic S4. I am still trying to decide between a manual and the tip for my S4. I understand that getting the tip will put a limit on how chippable the car is, but I'm sorta ok with that (saves me money... hehe). I also understand that performance will lag slighty behind the manual, but its fast enough... (Is there such a thing?) But for the rare track event that I attend, I don't want the car to be shifting when I don't want it to. Is tiptronic alright at track events? Thanks...

yes, and it was wonderful... (more)
though it was my first track event.
Advantages of the Tip in this situation:
1. Less to think/worry about
2. Shift from the steering wheel (very cool)
3. Upshifts at max RPM, no time wasted bumping against the rev limiter
3. Full throttle shifts
Disadvantages:
1. Shift is still not instantaneous, feels like slightly less control of downshift timing. (shift then wait, versus clutch-shift-clutch)
2. Can't tell your gear 'by feel' of the stick. I missed a downshift because I wasn't positive which gear I was in.
In either case, stick or tip, it's a blast to drive your S4 on the track. Highly recommended, at least once or twice.
