Default Anyone go up against a 928 late model ?

I played with one today...and I was pulling a bit.

I thought that they were a bit quicker....still love the looks of the car.

Depends on the model, power output on the 928 varied between 219 and 345 I think.

They're CHEAP, too. Almost bought a really nice one for 15K.

They're cows..lots of power but the weight handicaps them. Plus they weren't set up it anyway

Default IIRC, only the 928 GTS had the 345 5.4L V8. The U.S. spec S versions had either a 234 HP 4.7L or a

288 HP 5.0L.

Default I've ALWAYS thought the S model had 345hp and the 5L.

My brother test drove one when they came out. He said it was hellatious!(sp)

Default A little run down......

The 928 came over in 77/78 with a 4.5L @ 219/220 hp. Grey market Euro's had 229 hp.

In 80 they came out with a 4.7L S @ 234 hp (Euro's at 300).

In 85 the same out with a DOHC 5.0L S @ 288 hp. Euro's kept the SOHC but were rated at 310hp. Oddly, enough the DOHC engines were faster in the quarter but slower 0-60.

87-91 they had the S4, in 89-91 the GT's came out along with the S4. They stuck with the 5.0L. The 928 S4's was rated at 316 hp and the GT's were rated at 326 hp.

None in the US in '92. In '93-95 the GTS came over. It was a 5.4L at 345hp.

The 928 was a touring car. A high majority were automatics. The manuals were rare but much faster. None are "fast" to today's standards.

928's ran low final drives. An Audi S4 runs a 4.11, IIRC. A 928 runs around 2.20-2.75, depending on year. This makes them easy to drive but not geared for acceleration. On my '85 I don't have to shift out of first until 56 mph.

A '77 manual did the quarter in 15.5, A '95 manual does it in 13.7. Clearly a modded S4 will be faster :-)

I don't know, I've seen plenty of modded S4s run higher than a 13.7. ;-)
