Default Is the Clear bra worth it?

I think the clear bra looks great on all your S4s, is it an easy install, and easy to take off. How about the pricing?

Default few questoins about your car.....

First, i can barely tell there is anything there on your ca..I guess the name clear bra wasn't a name hard to come up with. Anyways, I was wondering if you had your entire hood coverd or is it a small piece. Where did you buy your stuff from, because i would like to buy as much protection as you did ( lights, fenders, bumper mirrors..etc....etc) thanks

Default info

EVERYTHING in front of the passenger cabin is covered: full hood, front bumper, front fenders, headlights, foglights. It's a bit pricey at a little over $1k, but well worth it IMO. They also do the side view mirrors in that package, but I opted not to do them (didn't want the lines). It's a custom install, and they install it. More info in this post as well as older posts when I initially had it done (along with a bunch of other folks around here). It's from the folks at www.clearbra.net, who use a different material than most of the other pre-cut systems. It's not something you'd take on and off all the time, it's pretty much a one use thing. I had my hood redone because of some damage, and it came off perfectly fine. The paint underneath was pristine. I've heard some horror stories about some of the other brands, but no first hand experience with them, and I don't really want to badmouth them. But I can say that I'm very happy with my decision. Great product, excellent customer service. They're based out of Utah, but will fly wherever if you get a group of ~8+ installs. Since it's a custom install, they'll cover as much as you want (with an adjustment in price of course). I think some folks here (tmblue, maybe others) had the rear bumper and rockers done as well.

Default From ClearBra. Full frontal cost about 1k. I think it's lower these days.

Consider how much it costs to get the front repainted though =)

I think just having the front 12" of the hood and full bumper/fender was about $500.

http://www.clearbra.net</a

Default Prolly me, since I like to take the night shots. :)

If you look through all my pics in my picture poster, in most cases you really can't see it (stongard) except those night photos. It's not more noticeable at night, just the lighting conditions req'd to get the shot also illuminate it...

Definetely recommend it. They throw rocks/gravel on the roads here in poor conditions which is pretty rare. But I'm glad when I go up to the mtns and there are crazy Suburbans intent on passing me at 70mph, and kick up tons of gravel as they go...

http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/users/92.phtml</a

Default Care to share the horror stories?

I've had the X-Pel kit on my car, removed after 1.5 yrs and it looked great. Now have the Stongard, which I prefer. I assume the horror stories were shared by a biased party?

When I got mine Dec. '99, I hadn't heard of ClearBra, I'll get that on my next car though (assuming it's not a race car). ;-)

Default well....

Not sure of the exact brands/etc, and these are just stories I've heard (so possibly biased/false/etc).

- another brand(s?) have fine print that says not to leave it on for longer than 2 years
- a guy with a Porsche had it on his hood, and when he tried to remove it, they needed a sander
- one of the guys on the M5 forums had a bra kit on and when he tried to remove it, it pulled off paint too - vehemently hates the stuff now
- material melting on the head/fog-lights

Of course though, there are a number of people that have quite pleasant experiences with other brands. I remember seeing some sort of pre-cut clear bra type material on few parts of this baby

as well as some 996tt's, so that's saying something. One of the big pluses about the stuff from www.clearbra.net is that there's no seams since it's custom installed to your car. (although they can do just a partial hood for you if you want) They aren't (or at least weren't) able to do the side mirrors w/o seams, just due to the curvature of the housing, which is partly why I didn't have mine done.

Default Well, those certainly can't be equated to all pre-cut brands (i.e. anything not ClearBra).

It was really easy to remove the X-Pel (just heat it up, and it comes off super-easy) and everything looked virgin underthere after a year and a half. And certainly neither X-Pel or Stongard state it needs to be removed after two years. I don't doubt there are probably some cheap brands which do as those people claim...

Again, I like the ClearBra itself as it has no seams, I'll get it on my 911TT when it comes in, or was it my Modena? ;-)
