Default I hope you mean both front *and* rear; you're not supposed to use different sizes F/R...

...read the owner's manual; this is a big no-no for the Quattro system...should use identical tires F/R.

Not entirely true - you can run a staggered set as long as the wheel diameter is within .5%

Default half of one percent is basically same size.

just imagine your front tires wearing faster than your rear tires. that difference is already more than 1 percent.

Totally fine.

you can run 225 40 18 in the front .. and 255 35 18 in the rear ... and they're both thousandths of an inch close to 25 inches in diameter.

Default Aww, crap...I missed that decimal point.

Yeah, let's see...
225-40/18 = 2(.4)(225)/25.4 + 18 = 7.086 + 18 = 25.09
255-35/18 = 2(.35)(255)/25.4 + 18 = 7.028 + 18 = 25.03

...pretty close, so I suppose as long as one verified the measurements (tires are notorious for their actual sizes being way off of their quoted sizes), it'd be OK with these two sizes, although having said that, I think such a combination would hurt the handling of the car: this thing already is frontward-weight biased, i.e. it understeers, and putting more rubber on the rear would give the rear even more grip, causing it to understeer more.

It might look nice, but if handling's your bag, I'd avoid it.

Default That's why I didn't do it. I just changed tires and had the chance to get the fat tire in the back.

hahaha.... NO MORE UNDERSTEER!!! this car understeers enough as it is.
