Anyone tried windshield chip repair?
I got a rock in the face the other day, and was considering trying the windshield repair route instead of paying the 238.50 for the new glass the dealer quoted me (though he does have it in stock, and my car goes in for 8k service Wednesday). I was wondering if anyone else had done it, and how it worked out. The only problem I foresee is that the chip is right in my line of sight, meaning that unless the repair ends up perfect it's going to drive me nuts. Any experience?

I got one done on my S4 recently
Since my Insurance company offered to do it for free, I figured I couldn't lose. I was about to pay for the replacement windshield anyway.
You can still see the crack, thankfully mine is at the bottom of the windshield and is not in my line of sight at all.
It was growing pretty rapidly (not as quickly as yours), but it grew about 10 inches over 2 days. It hasn't grown since I got it repaired (one week ago).

Worked well on my 96 A4...
I had about 3 or 4 chips repaired by Safelite, insurance company waived the deductible by going the repair route instead of replacing.
You could barely see anything after the repair, and had to be really looking for it. What was left looked more like a slight amount of bug residue than anything else.
If you replace the whole windshield, you always run the risk of not getting a good seal (i.e. leaks) or getting one with some noticeable distortion. I recommend you try the repair first.<p>John G
