APR Chip Question.

I just purchased a 2001 Audi Avant S4 and wanted to chip the car. I am willing to wait for the car to settle out all the bugs and other warranty covered problems it might have. The question I have is the APR chips offer options to which the chip will be undetectable to the dealerships. Has anyone bought this chip and was it successful in its stealthiness. Also some of the options connect to the cruise control stalk. Does this modification render the cruise control and other factory programs on the stalk useless? And if the stealth mode for these chips do work, why not just chip it early? Any info would be great.

and asked him the same question. As long as you're just getting the oil done. He doesn't worry, but if your getting things looked at because you're having a problem...swap the ECU for stock.

It's not that stealthy... It takes a dealer like 5 minutes to open up an ECU and look inside, and then there's no question there's a chip in there. If the question is whether they want to get paid $3000 for a turbo repair they could charge you $7500 for... they'll probably do it.
Stealth only goes so far, and there may be other (dealer codes?) ways they can find out. Zerin had an APR chip in his car when the turbo blew... the dealer found out and denied his warranty. The only truly stealthy chip is the stock chip, period, end of story, fini.
Now as for the cruise control... it's perfectly functional with the APR chip in there. The only time EMCS does anything is when you hold in the "set" button for at least 5 seconds to change modes. When you hit cruise on the fwy, you typically hold it for 1 second, max. It's pretty slick programming IMO.
Cheers,

I would consider paying the extra $$ for an additional ECU. When you are running in stock mode, you are running a program that is similar to stock, but it is not stock. Most dealers will not be able to tell except for maybe a few fault codes that can happen if you , say, unplug your battery. The other way they can tell is to open the ECU weather box and see if the serial number on it is different and/or if they open the ECU, which I have never heard of. All-in-all, it is a great chip with excellent features and customer service.

click

you still may want to get that extra ECU if you are TRUELY concerned about warranty issues. My dealer knows that I am chipped and I don't care. I think being truthful with your service manager is better than trying to deceive him/her. Anyway, just my opinion.
