APR Stage 3 Software...
I reprogrammed my ECU because I didn't like the order I had the different programs (Valet, Stock, 93, 104). APR sent me a Stage 3 .ape for my H box (Audi_S4_NA_MY2001_6spd_Manual_8D0907551H_S0003_St age_3_V1.2_testpipes.ape).
I didn't pay much attention to the name of the file when I was reprogramming, but the car seems to be running more smoothly and stronger, especially in the higher rpm's. I'd describe it as the difference I felt when I upgraded my old Stage 1 software with v5.0. Major obvious difference: the car was spiking up to 25 psi before, now it just barely spikes before settling at 20. Much smoother, no surging!
Well, as any nooB could tell from the name of the file, it is programmed for testpipes. When Champion Motorsports was doing my programming, they opted not to use this program because I was not going to be taking off the cats. (That was what Ben told me, something like, "We won't put on the testpipe programming...")
Haven't been able to get ahold of APR again. Does anyone know if there's any risk in running this programming? Which blocks I should log to check for problems?
Car seems to be running like a dream...

AFAIK, the only difference with the testpipe programming is that...
it won't throw the cat-efficiency DTCs. There shouldn't be any harm in running this code with cats.
My info is based on the Stage 1-2 & Stage 2+ code, so I don't know if the Stage 3 stuff is different. You might want to check with APR to be sure.

Some times reloading the software on the ECU makes it run a little different.
I've been jumping between production and beta versions for the last few months every few hundred to a thousand miles. Sometimes when you install the ECU in the car it runs different....it's really hard to explain. I mean you can unplug/plug in the ecu again and the car might exhibit a different boost behavoir...it's a trip.
I noticed you didn't load the 100 program. MAKE SURE you run the pump gas down as low as possible before putting in 104 or higher octane to insure you are running as close to 104 as possible...if not, it will not run as good as it should.
Also, when you run race gas/program...the car will run soooooooo much different. Hopefully one day soon APR will spend some time to improve the performance of the pump gas programming...cause stg 2+ performance on race gas w/ 6000 more hardware is not cool.
You un at gainsville's don't you? I miss that place....very good strip.

GIR has VP 103, which I'll keep in the trunk when the tank gets low--
and wait 'til it actually runs out of gas. Should I just load the 100 program since I won't be exceeding 103?
...and I think I might have been hoping for a little magic when I reprogrammed the ECU, which is why I was wary of my initial observations. But there's no doubt the car is running better, more civilized, and <faster>.
One of the fringe benefits of living in this particular boondock-- GIR 10 minutes away! Wed. night test 'n tune, 15 bones for all you can eat! tasty...

Here is a really good description of someone who ran this test. It really helps to be able to
compare the performance of all the kits. That way if any tuner needs improvement you/anyone can let them know. Hopefully in a constructive way.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/1607152.phtml">Good Fats testing protocol.</a></li></ul>
