B5 Manual to power seat conversion question.
Haven't been able to get a definitive answer on the A5 board, so I'll try here. I'm looking to buy a good used driver's seat, only problem is that it's not a power seat (which my current driver's is). Anyone know if the basic structure of the seat is the same between a manual and power? My assumption is that I can swap tracks, wire in the switches, and replace the side trim piece and turn the manual seat into a power seat. Is this correct, or are the seats completely different?

Tracks are welded - elec seat has two bolts in front of seat (either side)...
...manual has a gudgeon pin or hex bolt in the center and no bolts.
How do I know? I was there last night thinking the same thing...
You could do it - just need to do a bit of grinding and drilling...

Re: Tracks are welded - elec seat has two bolts in front of seat (either side)...
Are you talking about where the seat attaches to the floor, or where the tracks attach to the seat? I want to know if I can strip the manual tracks, mechanism, etc.. off the bottom of the seat and replace with the electric stuff.

The former. The elec seat needs the two runners to pull itself forward...
Your plan isn't going to work without a lot of messing around - definitely not a straightforward approach and will add 2"/3" to the stock seat height....
Cutting out the center rail and bolting down the new elec seat is the way to go - use an angle grinder or reciprocating saw is my advice...

I don't think you're following me. I currently have a power driver's seat.
The driver's seat I want to buy is a manual seat (I'm replacing it due to bad airbag and a tear in the lower bolster). I would like to disassemble the manual seat and reassemble it with the power mechanism.
What I don't know is whether the power mechanism will bolt up to the bottom of the stripped manual seat.

Ah - well it says "Manual to Power" above not "Power to Manual"....
The answer is no - you can't bolt a manual seat onto a power frame if you want to be able to adjust it.
Just keep the manual mechanism (locate if necessary) and weld the center guide into your car, then you're done!

Right, I want to transform a manual seat into a power seat.
Manual to power. Okay, my head hurts, lol.
At any rate, I think you answered my question.
