bad GIAC experience
I got a GIAC Stage I chip installed in my S4 about 10 days ago by dynospotracing. they did a good job, so this is no rip on them.
the chip is powerful...amazingly so...felt like lighting up afterburners...so i was a happy camper. until yesterday afternoon.
my check engine light came on and started blinking...and the car went into "wuss mode". luckily i was only a block from my house, so i pulled into the garage, and immediately smelled sulfur. yes, SULFUR. now i may not know much about cars...but damn, that's NOT a healthy smell.
this morning, i put the stock chip back in, and took it to the dealer (livermore audi). they did their diagnostic magic, and said "severe misfire".
the car drives just fine with the stock chip. but i'm afraid to put the GIAC back.
any ideas on what i should do, besides ask for my $$$ back from DSR? i like the chip, i like the speed, but i really don't want to f up my car.

Did they tell you the ACTUAL DTC(s) that occurred?
you should see if you can get the printout from them.
BTW, when you changed ECU's, the DTCs are erased (they go with the ECU) - so the shop doesn't know what happened when you had the GIAC in... you should put your GIAC back in and check the DTCs again (find someone that has a VAG-COM.. there are lots of us in the bay area

What year is your car? Was it an X-chip? What type of gas?
Make sure your MAF and 02 sensors aren't both shot. Both could cause the car to go into "limp" mode and/or missfire.

2000
X-chip
premium gas...mobil 91 octane.
also....they said one of the wiring connectors that's on top of the air filter was loose...could that cause it?
