Default Biggest spare tire that fits in Avant tire well?

I'd like to replace the doughnut spare tire with a real tire. Will a stock S4 rim fit in the spare tire well? If not, what is the largest "real" tire that will fit in there? Even something like a 205/55R16 would be a lot better than a doughnut in case of a flat tire--if it clears the brake, of course.

TIA.

people have reported that to fit an Avus wheel you have to cut some plastic, maybe they will post

Default I have tried to put an AVS sport that was 235-45 on an Avus wheel, and it was too tall

to fit in the well. Daphne has installed a stock tire with no problem. So I guess that is the biggest you cna get in there.

Default You cna either cut the bar or use a torx 15? IIRC to remove the plastic.

But then you still have to pull up the metal retainer springs. It is a PITA, but worth it for how often you think you will ever use the spare.

Default Actually, no spring is removed

The rear metal & plastic thing is held by 2 torx screws. Remove it by easing it off.

Without cutting anything away, you have a bit of an angle getting the spare in and out, but as you say, how often do you really use the spare.

Default Think he is talking about those 2 little silver clips that lock in towards

the center. Did you happen to cut yours? If so, could you post a pick? I have been tempted whenever rotating tires but don't want to cut if it looks gheto.

Default Well, never, until a few weeks ago.

Based on that experience, I'd like to have a full-size, or at least a real, spare tire, rather than the doughnut.

Thanks for the info.
