What's with the sudden appearance of blinking 3rd brake lights?? Not all on the same brand of vehicles and not new cars so someone must be offering blinking bulbs or something. The bulb blinks for like 10 seconds after coming on then goes to solid. Very annoying when creeping in rush hour traffic to have that stupid thing blinking in your face... yeesh.

No doubt, they make you take notice, and are ultimately probably more safe. But I agree with you, they are very annoying.

I take notice because it's different. After a while you'd just tune it out as noise...

If there are too many lights, both blinking and solid, you start to tune out more

I believe one of its many computers will monitor your braking. Under normal braking, it will activate the normal brake lights. Under heavy braking, it will take over the turn signals as extra brake lights, and I think it may flash them as well.

Of course, that's intelligent; constant blinking is just annoying.
