Default boost guage....

purchased 2001 S4 maybe 2 months ago. looking to put a boost guage on....i'm not great w/ cars. and not nearly as well versed on cars as 90% of the people who post stuff on here...that is why i ask questions...what is the benefits of having a boost guage? just curious...is it just aestetics? or is there a purpose...

Default There is a purpose, for me its to make sure I am not boosting

high when cold or when cooling off, also it lets you know if there are boost leaks.

Default I love it! Throw down the gauntlet!

That's a sweet setup, if maybe a bit more than he's asking for...

Default Only the big leaks, small ones can go unnoticed, turbos will work harder to make spec, can be bad in

long run as you probably know. The AWE or homemade pressure tester is a great tool for making sure things are tight.

Default As you get to know your car, you'll love (and crave) the boost so much you'll always wonder if...

...you're getting as much as you can, or should be. I've (almost) always found that, with the things I'm interested in at least, my gut instinct is right-- but it's always nice to have evidence, ergo the boost gauge. It's one of those things you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.

Of course it looks neat, but 'neat' or 'cool' may not be what you want in your car. Jeff Doyle's solution is stealth and really trick (pardon my age). There are other options, search the forum.

I went with the AWE vent gauge, which IMO looks great, but people also notice it, which can be a downside...

Default You think you're *more* likely to ignore boost leaks with a gauge?

Interesting... now I'm all flustered.
