Brake Question: 332 or 355
Hey guys,
I'm looking into upgrading my brakes. I have recently participated in a track event and have decided that for future events I would like to improve the fade resistance of the stock system. The question really comes down to are 355mm rotors necessary or will the 332mm rotors standup to anything I can throw at them? For those of you out there that have upgraded why did you pick the size you picked? Also do any of you, in hindsight, wish you would have picked the other size. Any other input would be greatly appreciated. TIA

I think most people choose 332. 355 requires you to use 18" wheels all the time.
I haven't heard any complaints from the locals who use 332 at the track.
As something else to think about, consider just using track pads with the stock system for your first few times out, to save some money. It's doubtful that you would cause that setup to fade after your first 1 or 2 track events. If you were using a totally stock setup the first time, I can see how you'd experience fade (also, your rotors are probably warped by now, if so).

I went with 332 mm StopTechs and I couldn't be happier. If you go to 355 rotors, I believe you are
limited to 18 inch wheels and larger. For me, this was unacceptable since, one, I didn't have 18" wheels for the street and would have had to buy new wheels and tires adding, at least $2000 to an already expensive purchase. Two, 18" snow tires are really expensive and I didn't want to have to buy new wheels and tires just for the winter. Three, 18" track tires are REALLY expensive and I didn't want to have to buy a third set of wheels and tires just for the track.
Since you're just starting out, I would be surprised to say the least if you were able to need more stopping power than the 332 rotors provide. If you have good pads, you really should be set.
