Brilliant Black - hard to keep looking good?
I know that most black cars are hard to maintain, but I have yet to see a black S4 that doesn't look pretty clean. Is it the paint or just that most S4 owners maintain their cars well? I'm asking because I have the chance to buy a 2002 Black S4 for $1,600 under MSRP or look for my ideal S4 through dealer-trade for $1,300 under MSRP. My only qualm with Black is that I'm worried that it'll look really dirty very quickly. Otherwise, I think it's a beautiful color. Ideally, I would want a Santorin Blue - Bose - Premium - Sport Trim with Silver Alcantara - 6 spd, but I don't think it's going to be easy to find. I'd settle for Silver. In fact, I have a standing offer from another dealer Silver S4 without Sport Trim Package for $1,000 under MSRP and I'm seriously considering it.
On another note, how good do you think the price I was quoted is ($1,300 under MSRP)?
What would you do? Wait for your ideal S4 and risk losing out on some great deals and possibly an S4 altogether? Or take the Black one?

Brilliant Black is awesome...
It is definitley a challenge to keep clean...I remove any dust from the paint in the morning and do a quick once around with a gloss spray or quick detail spray and a soft cloth...my paint is awesome.
Keep in mind I did not want black when I got the car in June of 2000...it has really grown on me!!!

Black is hard to keep clean, but does look GREAT when it is...
I just bought an '02 Brilliant Black Sedan - Onyx/Sliver Alcantara, 6-Speed, Premium, Bose, Cold Weather - last week. Spent the weekend making sure it was clean. One tip...DON'T let the dealer detail it. Mine was mirror smooth before I brought it in to be prepped (I picked it up with the white delivery plastic on) and it came back with light swirls all over it; I'm dealing with this situation right now. Other than that though, I think the Brilliant Black on Onyx/Sliver is the best combination for the S4. I had originally been looking for the same car in Santorin and then changed my mind to black, I don't regret it one bit. The Brilliant Black is very deep and looks incredibly classy on the S4.
Also, you should be able to do better than $1600 off MSRP. Just a tip, always work up from invoice, NEVER down from MSRP.
Just my $0.02

I live on a mile of dirt road, so I have to polish it every time I leave the house. And...
right now I probably have the dirtiest S4 on the forum. It a whitish, gray, red color from all the snow and road grit.

My biggest gripe is not keeping it clean...I don't mind washing it. I also use that
quick detail spray often...after every wash and sometimes in betwwen to remove fingerprints, etc.
My biggest gripe is the paint chips. The paint is so soft that it chips very easily and they are so much more noticeable on a dark car...all that white wax residue! If I had to do it again, I'd get a light color just beacuse they hide paint chips better.
