Default Can anybody explain my AC quitting for 15 min and then come back on it's own?

All I got was hot, humid air and yes, the Econ button was NOT on, yes, I tried to turn it off and then pressed AUTO but nothing, and NO, I was not running WOT for 15 min!!...it got to be dangerous at one point on the way back (turnpike) as the windows were all fogged up from the heat and humidity of today, what the hell!!!
The car had been parked for at least 90 minutes and outside temp had come down to 76 from 95 earlier, so that should rule out line freezing, etc.
(I have complained of AC problems before where it was not cold enough, then it sort of started to work better to the degree it was comfortable, now this??).

I decided to find a safe spot and shutdown the car and see if it fixed itself, as it happened, as soon as I slowed down and came to a stop, I felt cool air right away, I DID NOT touch the AC controls, nor turned the car off, simply pulled at a rest area and the AC started to work again.

I was so happy that it has been working flawlessly these past very hot days and now this.

If anybody has any idea or suggestion, please let me know, I had my VAG-COM connected by luck, checked for DTCs in Engine and AC system right away: NOTHING.
(I believe I noticed the air was not as cold as I remember being earlier in the day with much hotter temps outside....damn, I am sure the dealer won't find anything wrong again).

Thanks.

Default Lack of A/C charge?

Most A/C systems are set to shut off the compressor if they detect the charge is low. Perhaps your A/C charge is down a bit and shut itself down until some of the refrigerant condensed back into a liquid...

Default If the engine gets too hot, I think the A/C will shut off.

It did on my 1988 80Q. Sacrifice the driver, save the engine! ;-)

Default Low refrigerant would cause short cycling, not likely to stop 15 mins then restart.

By short cycling, I mean 10-20 second pauses in the compressor.

Default Re: Mine does this but, due to the outside ambiant air temp display drops to freezing temps...

when it's in the 90's. The dealer has no clue, no fault codes, my best guess is bad sending unit.

Sounds like a bad outside temp sensor.

Default Hmmm....is your external (rather noisy) fan on the outside of the radiator working OK.

When I had my accident, that fan was jammed to where it could not turn. THe AC worked fine on the freeway, but when I pulled over to talk to my insurance company, the AC stopped working after a couple minutes.
